"Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little." Edmund Burke
It is assumed that the Humane Society needs the financial support of the community. What is not well known is the fact that we need volunteers to help us with many of our activities. Listed below are several areas in which we need your help. Please take time to review them and let us know what you can do to help the animals.
OFFICE WORK
Our administrative offices are located at 4057 Chain Bridge Road in the city of Fairfax across from the Fairfax County Courthouse buildings. Help is needed in the following areas:
- Filing, faxing, photocopying
- Compiling information packets for the public
- Updating lost and found information
- Computer work
- Office cleaning
- Greeting the public
- Performing background checks on potential adopters
Office hours: Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Adoption hours: Monday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
THRIFT STORE
Our two thrift stores provide a fun opportunity to meet our donors and other volunteers. A typical day includes greeting donors, stocking the shelves, pricing, organizing, and selling items. The best part is that you get first dibs at buying neat things at bargain prices. The volunteer discount is a nice bonus as well.
Time commitment: One shift per week required
Store hours: Monday through Saturday 10:00am – 4:00pm (Second Chance 2)
