The summer months are one of the cruelest times for cats, dogs and other animals here in Fairfax County.honey

When I see the cruelty and neglect animals like Sophia have faced, it breaks my heart — and makes me furious! I know you'll feel the same when you read her˜story.

Pain and sorrow were all Sophia knew. Her neglectful owners were furious after she gave birth, so they stopped giving her food and water. Unable to nurse her puppies, they were all malnourished, barely clinging to life.

When Sophia and her puppies were brought to the Humane Society of Fairfax County (HSFC), we weren't sure they would survive. She was so weak, all she could do was lick the veterinarian's hand in gratitude. I know you agree that it is our responsibility to care for these innocent creatures. Thankfully, Sophia's story has a happy ending — all because of YOU and your past˜generosity.

Sophia and her puppies were fortunate. Once her babies began eating regularly, they quickly gained weight and became playful balls of fur. But Sophia needed surgery to repair another injury that had been left untreated. It took weeks of tender care and love before this sweet girl was ready for adoption.

Today, Sophia is happy and healthy in her forever home. All her puppies found loving homes, and Sophia and one of her daughters were adopted by an older couple who could provide the special care they˜need.
